She examines how information about a speaker affects language processing. Her past research has looked at whether people sound the same when speaking different languages and whether being familiar with a speaker’s voice in one language, helps a listener understand that speaker in a different language. Her current work expands on this to examine whether children, like adults, also show a processing benefit when listening to familiar talkers. She is also exploring whether language processing can be improved for children with language disorders using speaker familiarity.Dr. Levi received her doctorate from the Department of Linguistics at the University of Washington, completed a postdoctoral research position in the Department of Brain and Psychological Sciences at Indiana University. Prior to coming to NYU, she taught at the University of Michigan. She is currently the Director of the Undergraduate Program in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders.

Article Summary and Response

For this summary, locate and read an article relating to John’s Epistles (1, 2, and 3 John). Some suggested topics for your article choice are: the theme of righteous conduct in 1 John, the addressees of 2 John, the value of studying 3 John for believers today, etc.

The first section of your paper is the Summary Section. It must be at least 2 pages long. Be thorough but concise. Do not discuss what you think about the article in this section. This is only a summary of what the author said. If you go into your thoughts on the article in this section you will run out of things to say in the second half of this paper. What is the Author’s main point? How does he support it? Describe his reasoning, etc.

The second section of your paper is your Response Section. It must be at least 2 pages long. This is the most critical aspect of this assignment and will receive the greatest amount of critique and grading. Here you must critically respond with the author. In this section you will discuss the Strengths and Weaknesses of the article you summarized as well as a Concluding Paragraph in which you summarize your thoughts. If one these three sections is not present in your paper, you will automatically lose significant amounts of points. Make sure that you clearly delineate where each section begins by using section headers.
