Gone is the Stone Age in which human beings used to live in caves, hunt and gather for food and rely on herbs for medicine.

In the current century, life revolves around gaining formal education, looking for formal employment, and relying on one’s earnings to purchase food and medicine. The education system is such that people graduate from elementary level and proceed to high school, colleges, and other institutions of higher learning.
In the institutions of higher learning, people pursue a bachelor’s degree, masters, Doctor’s of philosophy degrees, and other levels of higher learning. There seems to be no end to education as people are pursuing further and further. Contemporary, the rate of high school dropouts is low as compared to earlier generations. There exists some driving force to attaining further and further education. Therefore, this paper will discuss the causes and effects of going to college.
Causes of Going to College
Become More Qualified. When conducting recruitment, many employers seek to recruit the candidate that has the highest academic training. Many jobs necessitate advanced and specialized training that is beyond high school level and thus the reason as to why people seek to pursue higher education. Though not all jobs require a college graduate, having such puts one in a more advantageous position.
Gain Competitive Advantage. The competition for stable and well paying jobs is stiff since more and more people have attained the minimum academic requirements. Such competition drives people to pursue further college education to attain competitive advantage. Compared to high school education, college education increases and widens a person’s understanding in their area of interest and their ability to solve real life problems. As a result, people who have pursued further college training will be more desirable in the job market than those who attained a maximum of high school training.
Improve Social and Business Network. With the current level of globalization, people prefer to enroll in colleges that are outside their country to experience diverse academic training alongside expanding their social and business network. Globalization has nullified the idea of conducting business within a limited geographical environment since with the use of internet a person can carry out businesses anywhere in the world.
Increase Earnings. It is a common belief that a college graduates earn more money from businesses and employment unlike their counterparts who dropped after high school. Though college education costs more in terms of time and money, the ultimate returns are worth pursuing. People pursue college education with the hope that they will make more money in the future unlike if they stayed with a high school certificate. This is true because college graduates are more competitive in the job market compared to high school graduates.
Gain Satisfaction. Among the reasons for desiring the college, education is to gain the prestige associated with college graduates. People with a college education and those that have furthered such are more respected in the social and business world as compared to high school graduates. Some people pursue a college education in order to fit in the social class of the educated and thus receive the dire recognition.
Effects of Going to College
Higher academic qualification; college and other institutions of higher learning entail intensive and extensive training and research in the relevant field; thus, a college graduate stands a better chance to solve complex problems as compared to high school graduate. On a different note, higher academic qualification comes along with added advantages such as registration into relevant professional bodies.
Becomes a more competitive person; the more a person pursues further academic training, the more they become desirable in the job market. Pursuing a college education or any other higher academic training makes a person more competitive as employers are always seeking to recruit the most qualified candidates. Since college diplomas and degrees have become common, people who have pursued postgraduate degrees become more competitive, unlike ordinary college graduates.

State and discuss the legal and ethical considerations occurring in this scenario. Include supporting citations.
Scenario:

Mark, a 35-year-old, was brought via ambulance to the emergency department after collapsing on the street. He was diagnosed with appendicitis and the surgical team was alerted to the potential surgery. The physician prepared to obtain informed consent and began discussing the simple effective surgery and the treatment with the patient. The RN was present at the bedside. The patient stated he did not want surgery. Based upon his beliefs as a Christian Scientist, it is against his practices. He requested a Christian Science practitioner. The patient rated his pain as 9 on 0-10 verbal pain scale so the RN prepared the narcotic analgesic to relieve the patient’s pain. The patient declined the medication. The RN believes the patient should accept the pain medication and have the surgery thinking “If it were me I would proceed with the surgery and treatments proposed by the surgeon.” The surgeon can be heard speaking to a fellow surgeon about how to go about changing the patient’s decision.

Define and discuss each type of managed care organization (MCO)—health maintenance organization (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO), and point of sale (POS). Managed Care

Define and discuss each type of managed care organization (MCO)—health maintenance organization (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO), and point of sale (POS).
Managed Care

In the United States, managed care is becoming an increasingly popular method of administering healthcare. It influences the clinical behavior of providers, as it combines the payment and delivery of healthcare into a single system, the purpose of which is to control the cost, quality, and access of healthcare services for a single bracket of health plan enrollees (Scutchfield, Lee, & Patton, 1997).

Yet, managed care often evokes strong or negative reactions from healthcare providers because they are paid a fixed amount for treating their patients, regardless of the actual cost, which may influence their level of efficiency. This can challenge the relationships between doctors and patients (Claxton, Rae, Panchal, Damico, & Lundy, 2012; Sekhri, 2000).

Research managed care’s inception and study some examples. Be sure to investigate the perspectives about managed care from the vantage of both healthcare providers and patients. You can use the following keywords for your research—United States managed care, history of managed care, and managed care timeline.

Based on your research, answer the following questions in a 8- to 10-page Microsoft Word document:

What are the positive and negative aspects of managed care? Analyze the benefits and the risks for both providers and patients, and how providers should choose among managed care contracts. Conclude with your analysis and recommendations for managed care health plans. Your response should include answers to the following questions:
Summarize the history of when, how, and why managed care was developed.
Define and discuss each type of managed care organization (MCO)—health maintenance organization (HMO), preferred provider organization (PPO), and point of sale (POS).
Explain the positive and negative aspects, respectively, of managed care organization from the provider’s point of view—a physician and a healthcare facility—and from a patient’s point of view.
Explain the three types of incentives for providers for efficiency in the delivery of healthcare services. Explain who bears the financial risk—the provider, the patient, or the managed care organization.
Offer your recommendations, to accept or decline, for patients considering managed care health plans, with your rationale for each.
