Organizational success is very important for any executive in the health sector and therefore matters regarding competing values such as societal values, personal and organizational ethics and beliefs affect decision making. The nurse executive is one of the bodies that can b affected by their values, beliefs, and ethics. The nursing executive must address the ethical dilemmas they face to enhance sound decision-making as ethics, beliefs, and values affect their organizational and organizational outcomes.

Ethical leadership involves the leaders’ activities that create an environment and culture that offers support to ethical practices in the nursing organization. Ethical leadership creates, sustains, and changes the culture of the organization. The executive’s behavior and programs can create a conducive environment for ethical practices such as good communication, quality health services to the patients, management of the healthcare professionals, and the other staff.

Beliefs and values in the nursing executive affect the organization missions in various ways such as patients satisfaction, employee satisfaction, and quality healthcare services. The culture of an organization is determined by the beliefs and values of the stakeholders. The beliefs and the values of the nursing executive can lead to a happy or unhealthy environment depending on their nature. The culture that involves the promotion of organizational ethos to the employs and patients makes them have a positive behavior leading to teamwork. The nursing organization can achieve its objectives and mission through good beliefs and values leading to job satisfaction. On the other hand, if the nurse executive’s beliefs, values, and ethics are not positive, the organization will face many challenges such as management, lack of communication and job satisfaction.

The nursing organization requires positive beliefs, values, and ethics since it deals with the well-being of individuals, any bad decision made by the leaders will impact negatively on the organization’s outcomes such as death of paints and low morale for the organizational employees. The nurse executive should, therefore, have a good culture to serve their clients with diligence.

Description of the Identified Healthcare Concern

Description of the Identified Healthcare Concern
You are the Vice-President of Nursing Services at a 500 bed facility that provides healthcare to a 6 county region that occurs in two different but adjoining states. Recently you attended a national conference regarding infectious diseases and the potential for their spread with our current global environment. Upon return from the conference, you have a conversation with a local public health official who identifies that there is no regional plan to combat an infectious disease outbreak. In addition, the official noted the presence of several barriers which will make the development of a plan more of a challenge. These include, but are not limited to:
· Identification of a plan that would cover a large region and a diverse population of approximately one million people

· Identification of a plan that could be coordinated from one facility, but interact successfully with 6 different counties and two different state governments

· The presence of a regional airport which increases the opportunity for introducing an infectious disease to the region

From the conversation, you realize that a coalition will be needed and that macro leadership skills are required for the coalition to be successful. You now accept the challenge to build a coalition within the region to develop a plan that would resist a sudden outbreak of an infectious illness.

Description of the Assignment
The purpose of this project will be to address a healthcare concern occurring within a community by providing macro level leadership needed to build a coalition. The identified coalition will seek to resolve the healthcare concern.

Overview

Prepare a 10 slide PowerPoint presentation for department managers on building leadership and trust in collaborative teams.
Perhaps the best predictor of team success is its clarity of purpose and the team’s commitment to achieving it. To support that purpose, a team needs a process that moves smoothly from vision and mission to goals and tasks in order to achieve the desired outcomes. The foundation of both purpose and process is leadership.
Any form of collaboration is an inherently human process. The culture of an organization can dramatically affect team efficacy and performance. The glue that holds teams together is trust. Three factors can help build trust in collaborative environments: performance and competence, integrity, and concern for the well-being of others.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
Competency 1: Explain strategies for effective interprofessional teamwork and collaboration in health care delivery.
Identify leadership behaviors that build trust within teams.
Identify leadership behaviors that undermine trust within teams.
Describe strategies team members can use to build trust among each other.
Describe principles of effective interprofessional team leadership.
Competency 2: Analyze the implications of working with interprofessional teams in multifaceted health care settings.
Explain the consequences of a team that does not trust its leader in terms of patient safety.
Competency 4: Communicate in a manner that is scholarly, professional, and consistent with expectations of a nursing professional.
Write content clearly and logically, with correct use of grammar, punctuation, and mechanics.
Correctly format citations and references using current APA style.
Context
“There is a need for nursing leaders to provide inspiration, mentorship, and direction, whether it be for a patient or the profession” (Mahoney, 2001, p. 269). Mahoney’s point is that leaders are needed at all levels, all functions, and all specialties of nursing. Leadership skills are especially important when guiding or facilitating a team.
But what makes a skilled leader? Aranda, Aranda, and Conlon (1998) suggest that five elements are critical: sharing an inspired vision, challenging team processes, modeling effective team behaviors, empowering team members, and encouraging the heart (pp. 45–46). Leaders must deal with conflict, decision making, and goal achievement.
In health care today, there are more teams (including virtual teams) of multidisciplinary professionals than ever before. To lead these teams effectively and successfully, the roles and responsibilities of each team member need to be clearly defined, along with clear descriptions of how the team will make decisions.
Trust is an important factor in multidisciplinary team collaboration as well, and it is measured in terms of reliability and communication. A competent and effective leader knows how to build trust across boundaries (geographic, cultural, gender, age, et cetera) to tap the skills and talents of each team member, resulting in team success.
Questions to Consider
To deepen your understanding, you are encouraged to consider the questions below and discuss them with a fellow learner, a work associate, an interested friend, or a member of your professional community.
What leadership skills are most important for leading successful teams?
What kind of team leader are you?
How do leaders in your own organization build and maintain trust?

Paper , Order, or Assignment Requirements
Case study
Shannon Doe is a third year undergraduate nurse on clinical placement at Charles Darwin University Hospital Emergency Department (ED).
Day 1 (Mon 19/09/2016). Shannon’s preceptor, Morgan Lane, says “Hi. You are with me. We are short staffed and there is a poor skill mix on today. I will get you to orientate yourself to ED today by doing this ‘search and find’. Once you have done that, if you sit in the tea room here and log into this computer with these generic log in details (hands you piece of paper with log on and password), you can work through the WHS, infection control, mandatory reporting and aggression management modules. That should fill in your first shift”. Shannon replies “OK then.” Shannon’s preceptor then walks away. She did not approach Shannon for the rest of the shift.
Day 2 (Tues 20/09/2016). At morning handover the team leader asks “Who is working with the student today?” Shannon’s preceptor, Morgan, says “I’m stuck with her” then laughs and says “Nah… Joking!” Shannon smiles and giggles, but inwardly she feels embarrassed.
After handover Morgan advises Shannon that she will be looking after two patients. Bed 1 has an 11 year old girl with Leukemia. Morgan asks Shannon “Where should you look for bleeding?” Wanting to demonstrate her knowledge Shannon advises “Platelets release thromboplastin, which converts prothrombin to thrombin in the first step of the coagulation process; if the girl has low platelets she may bleed and one of the first places to look for signs of bleeding is the gums and mucous membranes”. Morgan replies “What are you, a walking text book?” and smiles. “Well done” she adds. Shannon gives an awkward smile back but does not respond verbally. Inwardly she are questioning whether she just received a compliment or a criticism.
Bed 2 has a two year old boy with croup. Shannon can hear his barky cough and inspiratory stridor. Morgan says “Can you recite what you know about croup?” Just as Shannon was about to respond, Morgan says “Nah, don’t worry about that, just go in and make sure the parents have some breakfast. Hear that? (pauses to listen) We need to get the family up toPaeds as soon as possible”. Shannon feels a bit dismissed but understands that the clinical need is a priority over her clinical education at that time.
Day 3 (Wed 21/09/2016). Shannon and Morgan are allocated to cubicles 1 to 4. After handover Shannon walks into cubicle 1 to do a set of vital signs on a male patient admitted with pneumonia. He does not respond. Shannon pushes the emergency call bell, checks his airway for blockage, checks his breathing using ‘look, listen, feel’. He is not breathing. Shannon commences CPR. Morgan arrives at the same time as Dr Trent Michael and RN Anna Roberts. Morgan says in an audible tone “OMG!” then adds ” What have you done?” Just as Shannon is about to respond Morgan says “Finish that cycle of compressions then step back, we’ll handle this”. Shannon completes the cycle of compressions and stands back and observes the resuscitation. Later in the day Morgan goes to the clinical debrief. Shannon notes that Morgan did not invite her; she feels ignored.
Day 4 (Thurs 22/09/2016). Shannon calls the Nursing Unit Manager (NUM) and advises “I am not coming in today. I feel like I am being bullied”. The NUM asks Shannon to complete an incident report.
Task
• Complete the incident report in the template provided as the worker (student) in the case study provided.

Problem Assignment Loss of Major Program 2A Objective To gain experience in coping with situations that could cause a severe financial loss to an organization and lead to a reduction in force.

To explore the role and responsibilities of the senior technical manager in guiding the organization through troubled times. Background The company background is the same as that described for the Newly Appointed Senior Manager scenario. Six months have elapsed since you have assumed the position of Vice President and Chief Engineer. You have done well in transitioning into the new position. Of the problems you encountered on assuming the job, most have been resolved satisfactorily. Your direct reports and corporate management have welcomed your work ethic and energetic approach. Chet Chandler has been helpful with advice when asked, and has been careful not to intrude on your operation. With your concurrence and help, he has become interested in two independent research and development (IR&D) projects dealing with development of automated machine tools, and has taken time off from his corporate duties to contribute his expertise to the investigations. In the area of new business, things have not turned out nearly as well. In fact, three potential programs had been either lost or indefinitely postponed. • Although you had quickly formed a strong proposal team for the Synthetic Aperture Radar System, the team would have only 45 days to respond to the request for proposal (RFP). An STA assessment of the competition concluded the chances of winning against the expected competitors, some of whom had evidently been working on the problem for six months, would not warrant an STA investment in a crash proposal effort. • Another program for the U.S. Government, planned to begin full scale development, stalled because of Congressional cuts in the sponsor’s program and funding demands from overruns in higher priority sponsor programs. • A promising venture into implantable biomedical devices not cleared clinical test and evaluation as scheduled. STA had hoped the venture would develop into a new product line and open up a new marketing area. Assignment Scenario After you became Chief Engineer, an opportunity to bid on a National Aeronautical and Space Agency (NASA) RFP for Ocean Research Satellites (ORS). STA formed a proposal team immediately and produced an excellent proposal. You contributed substantially to the planning and were well satisfied with the result of STA’s proposal. You felt STA’s chances of winning the NASA contract were excellent because of STA’s previously demonstrated experience in spacecraft development and economies made possible by STA’s design to use existing hardware for ORS. This morning NASA announced Huge Aircraft Company (HAC) as organization to receive the ORS contract. In your debriefing NASA informed you the STA proposal had been excellent, but the HAC proposal was judged superior to STA’s proposal. Reading between the lines, you understand HAC’s systems approach, larger staff, and facilities had provided the margin. The loss of the NASA program was a very serious development because the loss added to the failure of other potential work to materialize. The completion of STA programs currently in progress will create a situation in which STA personnel not covered by active program work will grow 100 engineers within six months with no new work. The impact on support staff will be delayed an additional six to twelve months. In addition, 12 key technical specialists, who had been working on the ORS proposal effort, need reassignments. The 12 key technical staff would have been the core staff for the new ORS program is STA had won the contract. A critical situation exists now. You returned from the NASA debriefing session late in the afternoon and discovered from your secretary word has already spread throughout the engineering department that HAC won the contract. Various gloomy rumors are flying around about STA’s future business prospects. Recognizing it is essential to provide the STA staff with authoritative information on how they are likely to be affected by the program loss, you went immediately to President Anderson’s office to discuss the perceived impact of the loss and your latitude in addressing the problems it has created. Anderson assured you STA is financially sound and enjoys an excellent reputation in both government and industrial circles. However, he admitted concern regarding the apparent interval in winning new business. He told you to use your good judgment in speaking to your direct reports. Thereupon, you asked your office administrator to convene a meeting of all Engineering Department, Branch, and Group Supervisors for 8:00 a.m. the next day. You plan to spend much of the evening preparing for the morning meeting. You need to consider carefully how to address the obvious concerns of your supervisors, especially those who had been scheduled to participate heavily in the NASA satellite development. In the STA value system, the integrity of the technical staff is of top priority. At the same time, you would be less than candid if you did not admit that a real problem existed. 1. What would you do prior to the 8:00 a.m. meeting, either the previous evening or early morning, in the way of preparing to communicate with others in the organization? List, using the following format, at least three people with whom you would communicate. For each person, state a key topic you would discuss. In the amplification, explain your rationale for the topic selected. Cite the applicable general principle(s) in selecting the key topics to be discussed. Provide references for the general principles cited and support your viewpoint in the amplification section (50 words or less per person). PERSON TOPICS GENERAL PRINCIPLE(S) AMPLIFICATION Hint: In addressing person, topics, and general principles consider the following four factors in developing your response: o The personnel factor, including current and expected staff needs, morale, and the probability of personnel losses o The potential impact on workload, both short term and long term o Financial factors o Cultural factors 2. Using the tabular format shown below, address the following: • To prepare to answer the most pressing concerns of the first line supervisors, list four major questions, in priority order, that you would expect at this meeting. • For each anticipated question, state four key points, along with the general management principle(s) that apply in selecting these points that you intend to get across in your opening remarks. In the amplification, include your rationale for the prioritization of the questions. Provide references from readings and support your viewpoint in the amplification section (50 words or less per question). QUSTIONS KEY POINTS GENERAL PRINCIPLE(S) AMPLIFICATION Hint: In addressing questions/concerns, key points, and principles that apply, consider the following four factors in developing your response: o The personnel factor, including current and expected staff needs, morale, and the probability of personnel losses o The potential impact on workload, both short term and long term o Financial factors o Cultural factors
