To prepare:

Review the various technology tools described in this week’s Learning Resources.

Identify a recently adopted information, education, or communication technology tool in your specialty area. Reflect on how it is used and how its use impacts the quality of care.

Consider how your identified technology tool might impact nursing practice if it were more widely used. What are some barriers preventing increased usage? How could wider implementation be facilitated?

================================================================================================================

Post a description of a current or new information, education, or communication technology tool that is being used in your specialty area and assess its impact on the quality of care. Highlight the effect that increased use of this technology would have on nursing practice and discuss the barriers that are slowing or hindering its adoption. Summarize how adoption of the technology tool could be facilitated.

Jackson County Senior Services is a nonprofit organization devoted to providing essential services to seniors who live in their own homes within the Jackson County area. Three services are provided for seniors—home nursing, meals on wheels, and housekeeping. In the home nursing program, nurses visit seniors on a regular basis to check on their general health and to perform tests ordered by their physicians. The meals on wheels program deliver a hot meal once a day to each senior enrolled in the program. The housekeeping service provides weekly housecleaning and maintenance services. Data on revenue and expenses for the past year follow:

The head administrator of Jackson County Senior Services, Judith Miyama, is concerned about the organization’s finances and considers the net operating income of $5,000 last year to be razor-thin. (Last year’s results were very similar to the results for previous years and are representative of what would be expected in the future.) She feels that the organization should be building its financial reserves at a more rapid rate in order to prepare for the next inevitable recession. After seeing the above report, Ms. Miyama asked for more information about the financial advisability of perhaps discontinuing the housekeeping program.
The depreciation in housekeeping is for a small van that is used to carry the housekeepers and their equipment from job to job. If the program were discontinued, the van would be donated to a charitable organization. None of the general administrative overhead would be avoided if the housekeeping program were dropped, but the liability insurance and the salary of the program administrator would be avoided.
Required:
1. Should the housekeeping program be discontinued? Explain. Show computations to support your answer.
2. Recast the above data in a format that would be more useful to management in assessing the long-run financial viability of the variousservice

With respect to the costs you calculated last week, describe how the patient will pay for the cost of treatment.
Analyze the healthcare delivery system as illustrated in this case. What problems did you notice? Would some people find it difficult to pay for treatment? Are there areas where treatment for this illness is unavailable or unaffordable to the common person?

Students should discuss the evidence base that supports the nursing intervention(s) used.
Evaluation did the intervention work? How do you know?
Reference should be made in the case study of how public health policy affects patients (depression)
The role of the multidisciplinary team specific to depression should be discussed.
Current issues in global health and their relevance to depression should be discussed.

What are the challenges and opportunities that these social environmental factors play in developing community health programs and providing access to healthcare services?

What are the challenges and opportunities that these social environmental factors play in developing community health programs and providing access to healthcare services?

To gain an understanding of the community around you, students are asked to conduct a ”Windshield Survey.” This basically requires students to take notes and answer specific questions while walking around a local community or riding in a car with someone else driving (for safety).First, students are asked to review the CDC’s Social Environment Handbook Chapter 5 on Windshield Surveys. You ONLY NEED TO READ CHAPTER 5 – not all of this handbook! The link to this electronic Handbook is included in the module and also here (https://www.cdc.gov/dhdsp/docs/seh_handbook.pdf (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.). Within this short chapter the CDC has created a Windshield Survey Form. Students should answer all questions on the Form as they are observing the community. The Form questions can be found on pages 53-55 of the Handbook. After completing the survey, students should input their main observations into Webcourses (as text- DO NOT upload any files) (please include the header for each section (A-J) you are answering).Lastly, students should provide a summary statement at the end answering the question: K. What are the challenges and opportunities that these social environmental factors play in developing community health programs and providing access to healthcare services?Students will receive 2 points for complete responses to sections A-J and 12 points for a thoughtful response to the final question in section K (make sure to provide challenges and opportunities).
