Explain the difference between a person who has to maintain a strict regimen of healthy living and diet to not be obese and a person who is diagnosed with an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa.
Part 1:

In this era of concerns about health, diet, and obesity, there are a multitude of diets and weight loss products (including pills and surgery) on the market. The social norms seem to be shifting to a healthier lifestyle, with obesity being targeted as a major health problem. This leads individuals to seek help in weight loss and obesity. For example, in order to be successful after bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery), a person has to change his or her lifestyle—which often includes monitoring what he or she eats and when.

Explain the difference between a person who has to maintain a strict regimen of healthy living and diet to not be obese and a person who is diagnosed with an eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa.
Review the National Institute of Mental Health’s information regarding eating disorders. Describe the symptoms of anorexia nervosa and provide an explanation of the common factors relating to acquiring the disorder, how it is diagnosed, and its treatment.
Part 2:

Impulse control can be defined as an inability to control the desire for a substance or act. The lack of impulse control is seen as a factor related to substance abuse but it is not the only factor. Research information on addictions and the two types of addictions (substance addictions and behavioral addictions). Choose one substance addiction and one behavioral addiction and answer the following:

Describe each addiction including potential genetic and environmental factors leading to the addiction. Describe the common symptoms, especially those that impact the person both physically and psychologically. Describe the common treatments for the disorders.
Explain why a person with an addiction may have a difficult time accepting he or she has an addiction, seeking treatment, and abstaining from the addiction without relapsing.

Analyze potential concerns or issues that could arise during an evaluation, and consider strategies for addressing those concerns. Evaluations and Ethics

Analyze potential concerns or issues that could arise during an evaluation, and consider strategies for addressing those concerns.
Evaluations and Ethics

A range of ethical issues must be considered in an HIT system implementation. Ethical issues can be related to the appropriate use of decision support systems, privacy and confidentiality, consent for the use of clinical information, and accountability errors. By being aware of potential ethical issues, nurse informaticists may generate evaluation plans that circumvent or address ethical concerns before these concerns hinder a system implementation.

In this Discussion, you analyze potential concerns or issues that could arise during an evaluation, and consider strategies for addressing those concerns.

To prepare:

Select one of the following areas, and consider potential ethical issues a nurse informaticist may encounter:
appropriate uses and users of decision support systems
privacy and confidentiality
consent for secondary use of clinical and genetic information in databases
accountability or responsibility for errors
Using this week’s Learning Resources and at least one additional resource from the Walden Library, identify key concerns within the area you selected.
Consider strategies for using evaluations to address these ethical concerns.
By Wednesday 1/25/2016, post a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references from the list below that include the level one headings as followed below:

You have been promoted to the role of office manager of a healthcare administration company. Prior to your assuming this role, you learn that the previous manager was lackluster and allowed employee morale and performance to go downhill. In your first few days on the job, you notice this behavior firsthand; there are a number of unproductive and nonperforming employees.

Some employees perform their job functions slowly and inefficiently, while others perform as little work as possible. Some come in late to work, or take long breaks and lunches. There is no system of accountability, nor are there rewards in place for excellent performance. The overall culture of the department has become sour and lazy.

What steps would you take to attempt to turn office morale and employee performance around? Be sure to discuss opportunities for employee education and training, and how the promotion of lifelong learning in the workplace for both you and your employees could bring about a positive change. Write in a response to each case scenario. Should be at least 500 words.

The more options we have, the better able we are to match our actions to the situation presented. With this additional scope of understanding, the professional nurse can demonstrate the dynamics necessary for success. In addition to meeting immediate demands, planning and implementing long-term change in relation to current and future health problems can be put into action. For your course project, you will develop a leadership guide for a group of junior nurse managers participating in a leadership class. The leadership guide should speak to a variety of leadership components. Your professional conceptualization will be based on your current or past practice. Consideration of change and health care delivery in your area of nursing, professional and personal values, holistic assessment and implementation, and current climate and culture will be included in this guide. These dynamics will be explained within the framework of nursing theory, historical understanding, and predictive outcomes and needs. In the final step of developing the guide in Unit 10, you will bring all of these components together along with a one-page summary that discusses how having this knowledge can impact the nurse’s role in leadership and management. You may organize your leadership guide in any order, but it should follow a logical sequence. Describe how organizations use statistical thinking to be more competitive.. Juan’s dismissal appeared to be imminent due to numerous complaints and even a few lawsuits over inaccurate prescriptions.

Read the following case study.

Ben Davis had just completed an intensive course in Statistical Thinking for Business Improvement, which was offered to all employees of a large health maintenance organization. There was no time to celebrate, however, because he was already under a lot of pressure. Ben works as a pharmacist’s assistant in the HMO’s pharmacy, and his manager, Juan de Pacotilla, was about to be fired. Juan’s dismissal appeared to be imminent due to numerous complaints and even a few lawsuits over inaccurate prescriptions. Juan now was asking Ben for his assistance in trying to resolve the problem, preferably yesterday!

“Ben, I really need your help! If I can’t show some major improvement or at least a solid plan by next month, I’m history.”

“I’ll be glad to help, Juan, but what can I do? I’m just a pharmacist’s assistant.”

“I don’t care what your job title is; I think you’re just the person who can get this done. I realize I’ve been too far removed from day-to-day operations in the pharmacy, but you work there every day. You’re in a much better position to find out how to fix the problem. Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it.”

“But what about the statistical consultant you hired to analyze the data on inaccurate prescriptions?”

“Ben, to be honest, I’m really disappointed with that guy. He has spent two weeks trying to come up with a new modeling approach to predict weekly inaccurate prescriptions. I tried to explain to him that I don’t want to predict the mistakes, I want to eliminate them! I don’t think I got through, however, because he said we need a month of additional data to verify the model, and then he can apply a new method he just read about in a journal to identify ‘change points in the time series,’ whatever that means. But get this, he will only identify the change points and send me a list; he says it’s my job to figure out what they mean and how to respond. I don’t know much about statistics — the only thing I remember from my course in college is that it was the worst course I ever took– but I’m becoming convinced that it actually doesn’t have much to offer in solving real problems. You’ve just gone through this statistical thinking course, though, so maybe you can see something I can’t. To me, statistical thinking sounds like an oxymoron. I realize it’s a long shot, but I was hoping you could use this as the project you need to officially complete the course.”

“I see your point, Juan. I felt the same way, too. This course was interesting, though, because it didn’t focus on crunching numbers. I have some ideas about how we can approach making improvements in prescription accuracy, and I think this would be a great project. We may not be able to solve it ourselves, however. As you know, there is a lot of finger-pointing going on; the pharmacists blame sloppy handwriting and incomplete instructions from doctors for the problem; doctors blame pharmacy assistants like me who actually do most of the computer entry of the prescriptions, claiming that we are incompetent; and the assistants tend to blame the pharmacists for assuming too much about our knowledge of medical terminology, brand names, known drug interactions, and so on.”

“It sounds like there’s no hope, Ben!”
