State the research hypothesis in your own words. Identify the independent and dependent variables.
Assignment 3: The Mozart Effect

In this assignment, you will read an article about the Mozart effect and identify various parts of the research process. This exercise will help you learn how to read a research article and to understand the research process.

Read the following article:

Rauscher, F. H., Shaw, G. L., & Ky, K. N. (1993). Music and spatial task performance. Nature, 365. 6447: 611. (October 14, 1993). (ProQuest Document ID 76004658).
In your article summary, respond to the following questions:

State the research hypothesis in your own words. Identify the independent and dependent variables.
What were some variables the researchers controlled in their study? Why was this necessary?
What evidence do the researchers offer as a test of their hypothesis? Is this evidence empirical (observable)? Is it valid?
What explanation do the researchers offer for their findings? Does the evidence justify this explanation?
Read the following article:

Jenkins, J.S. (2001). The Mozart effect. Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, 94, 170-172.

Based on your readings, respond to the following:

Do you think there is any merit in the study (Rauscher, Shaw, & Ky, 1993)? Give three reasons for your position.
Does the study take individual differences in spatial ability into account? Explain your answer.

8. Establish the feasibility of the implementation plan. Address the costs for personnel, consumable supplies, equipment (if not provided by the institute), computer-related costs (librarian consultation, database access, etc.), and other costs (travel, presentation development). Make sure to provide a brief rationale for each. Develop a budget plan. Although you will not be submitting the budget plan in Topic 5 with the narrative, you will include the budget plan in the appendices for the final paper.
9. Describe the plans to maintain, extend, revise, and discontinue a proposed solution after implementation.
You are required to cite five to 10 sources to complete this assignment

Justify your responses by citing at least two scholarly sources.

Support your responses with examples.

In addition, respond to the following questions:
•Explain why health indicators are an important tool in public health.

IDENTIFY AN ISSUE OR POLICY CONCERN IN THE FIELD OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND WRITE AN ARTICLE IN THE SOCRATIC METHOD.

IDENTIFY AN ISSUE OR POLICY CONCERN IN THE FIELD OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AND WRITE AN ARTICLE IN THE SOCRATIC METHOD.

identify an issue or policy concern in the field of sexual assault and write an article in the Socratic Method.

The Research paper will identify an issue or policy concern in the field of sexual assault and write an article in the Socratic Method. Prepare a title page with the title of your project, your name, course name and number, and the professor’s name. Present your research outcomes in a summary report format that is welldefined and logical, and cite all your pertinent authorities and references that were used to complete the project in accordance with the most current APA format and style. The paper should follow the same course requirements as all other papers, including 1-inch margins and double-spaced typed text consisting of 2400 words, excluding references

Option 1: The student will outline the problem, propose a solution, answer what critics say about the problem, and discuss the implications of the solution. Example: The student would identify a problem such as why sexual assault kits at the hospital do not include the opportunity for a urine sample. This problem exists because sexual assault advocates believe defense attorneys will use the results to assassinate the character of the victim. The student would then develop a hypothesis such as, “Sexual assault kits taken at the hospital should include a urine sample.” The student would then discuss the idea that having a urine sample would show that a victim had been drugged. Most date-rape drugs are metabolized in a matter of hours. So having a sample immediately following the assault would provide investigators with what they need to move forward on the case. Critics would say that the character assassination experienced by the victim trumps that of the value where the investigator could prove the victim was drugged. The student would discuss the research in these areas. Following a discussion of the literature, the student would discuss the implications of the policy change. In this case, what would likely occur within each institution where the urine collection practice would be established at the evidence collection stage? The student would then close the paper with a thoughtful conclusion.

Option 2: The student may choose another topical discussion that might include:  Are the guidelines for child forensic interviews founded upon empirical research?  Should law enforcement be required by law to have mandatory training in child interviews?  Mandatory reporting of abuse supersedes privilege in certain circumstances. Should it be expanded to other parties? Why or why not? The article is not to be an opinion piece such as an Op-Ed or newspaper article. This is to be a scholarly article based on empirical research. Any articles that are not written in the required manner will not be accepted. The article must be no less than 2,400 words and must be written in the most current APA format (6th Edition). No papers will be accepted for credit if they do not conform to the APA writing requirement. Be sure to include a separate reference page in the final paper.

Discuss at least two diseases that Betsy could be at risk for at her age. If she had these diseases, what would be your recommendations to reduce complications?

BETSY CASE STUDY

Please read the following scenario:
Betsy, a 79 year-old woman, was evaluated in your office. She lives with her 81 year old husband who is her primary caregiver. He reports that approximately 2 years ago his wife began to lose interest in the things she enjoyed like shopping, cooking, and sewing. Gradually she become less interested in food and has lost 18 pounds in the past year. He has tried commercial nutritional supplements but has not been successful getting her to consume them. He stated he is not much of a cook but has been trying his best. He is frustrated and concerned about his wife’s weight loss and lack of appetite. He feels he is constantly trying to get her to eat. He does not have any family support as he and his wife never had children. Her medical evaluation revealed cognitive impairment using the Mini-Mental State Examination. She does not appear to have any chewing or swallowing problems but has not seen a dentist in over three years. She takes one prescription medication for her arthritis. This couple is on a fixed income from social security. Her height is 5’1” and current weight is 100 pounds. Past weight was 118 pounds (1 year ago).
Answer the following questions about Betsy. Your responses should be phrased as though you were counseling the client. This means explaining your answers in detail. Please refer to question one for an example of an acceptable response.
As Betsy ages, how has her body composition changed from when she was 50 years old until now? Example Response: Betsy as you age your body will go through a number of changes such as X,Y,Z. For example, when you were 50 years old you may have been able to do X, but now at 79 you may be a little limited in doing that function.
Based on Betsy’s scenario, what are at least two physiologic and at least two non-physiologic factors that are impacting her nutritional and health status?
