How can personal health record systems and electronic health systems contribute to advancing the role of CHI?

Consumer Health Informatics (CHI) is the field that helps to connect the gap between patients and health resources. Its focus is to provide patients with the most complete health information possible.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research on CHI. Based on your readings and understanding, create a 3- to 4-page Microsoft Word report that provides the answers to the following questions:

What role will medical informatics professionals play in CHI? What are some of the barriers to the growing role of CHI?
What do you believe is the most important thing that needs to happen next in order for CHI to continue evolving? How can it best be addressed?
What are the key factors in training users of health information systems technologies?
How can personal health record systems and electronic health systems contribute to advancing the role of CHI?
What are the three options for CHI that could improve healthcare quality and lower costs in the future?

Assignment 2: LASA 1—Diagnosis for Substance Use Disorder with Co-occurring Disorder

In your professional capacity as a substance abuse counselor, you are not permitted to give diagnoses for mental disorders other than those related to substance abuse. However, you will likely be exposed to clients with mental health disorders in the assessment or treatment process. The competent substance abuse evaluator will be able to identify clients who present mental health disorders and make the appropriate referrals. Providing appropriate referrals for clients is common in the substance abuse field.

In M1: Assignment 3, you developed a case history for a person with an addiction. In this assignment, you will develop a case history and include one mental disorder. The inclusion of a mental disorder in your case study will aid in the examination of co-occurring disorders. You will then present your diagnosis and referrals.

This assignment has two parts. Complete both parts.

Based on this information, explain how you would address the problem as follows: o Formulate a desired outcome.

To prepare:
• Review the Meyer article, “Nursing Services Delivery Theory: An Open System Approach,” in this week’s Learning Resources. Focus especially on the information presented in Table 1 (p. 2831) and Figure 2 (p. 2833).
• Reflect on your organization or one with which you are familiar. Within a particular department or unit in this organization, identify a problem the staff is encountering.
• Using Table 1 in the Meyer article as a guide, analyze the department or unit, identifying inputs, throughput, output, cycles of events, and negative feedback. Consider whether the problem you have selected relates to input, throughput, output, cycles of events, and/or negative feedback.
• Think about how you could address the problem: Consider what a desired outcome would be, then formulate related goals and objectives, and translate those goals into policies and procedures.
• Research professional standards that are pertinent to your identified problem.
• Reflect on the organization’s mission statement and values. In addition, consider how addressing this problem would uphold the mission and values, while improving the organizational culture and climate. (Depending on the organization you have selected, you may have explored these in the Week 1 Discussion.)
To complete:
By Day 7
Write a 3- to 5-page paper (page count does not include title and reference page) that addresses the following:
• Describe a department or unit within a health care organization using systems theory terminology. Include a description of inputs, throughput, output, cycles of events, and negative feedback.
• Describe the problem you identified within the department or unit using an open- systems approach, and state where the problem exists using the systems theory model (input, throughput, output, cycles of events, or negative feedback).
• Based on this information, explain how you would address the problem as follows:
o Formulate a desired outcome.
o Identify goals and objectives that would facilitate that outcome.
o Translate those goals and objectives into policies and procedures for the department or unit.
o Describe relevant professional standards.
• Explain how your proposed resolution to the problem would uphold the organization’s mission and values and imp

Outline at least one way to increase the public’s knowledge of mental health issues.
Critical Thinking Assignment Instructions

In general, this assignment requires students to (1) identify, examine, and analyze a current event that can be associated with mental health using psychological perspectives that have been discussed in class; and (2) outline at least one way to increase the public’s knowledge of mental health issues.

For Part 1 of the paper, each student should:

Select a current issue or event that is related to a mental health issue. This event has to have occurred (or been in the media) within the last year. Students can focus on a particular mental health issue or approach it more generally. In other words, this current event may stand on its own or stem from social, political, religious, environmental, or other concerns.
Choose two perspectives that have been discussed over the course of the semester (e.g., biological, cognitive, social, developmental, behavioral, psychodynamic, etc). Using these two perspectives, compare and contrast them regarding the selected current event. In other words, students must analyze the pros and cons of each perspective as they apply to the issues. This portion of the paper should:
Discuss how these perspectives explain what is occurring with regard to this mental health issue. (How can the concepts/theories selected be used to explain the current event/issue? How well do they explain the event?)
Organize arguments to reveal differences and similarities in the views; include insights and information from relevant sources.
Use sources to support ideas and back up factual claims. Your psychology textbook is an appropriate source.
Be mainly analytical. Although a portion of the paper will be devoted to describing the current event/issue, as well as to a general discussion of the psychological perspectives, the vast majority of the paper should consist of the student’s analysis.
Discuss which perspective best explains the current mental health issue, based on the student’s analysis.
Each student must critically analyze and explain why the chosen perspective is a better choice than the other.
For Part 2 of the paper, each student should:

Describe a way to increase the public’s knowledge of mental health issues. This strategy must be based on the perspective that was argued in Part 1 as the best explanation of the current event.
Refer to relevant psychological research that supports this proposed strategy. Your psychology textbook is an acceptable source of research.
Discuss possible limitations of the proposed strategy.

Abstract and Position Paper

Course outcomes addressed in this Assignment:

Discuss the role of health policy and organizational structure on quality improvement within health care environments.

Policy Change regarding full scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners at a Federal level.

Directions:

For this Assignment, Abstract and Position Paper, you will search for a scholarly journal to publish to. You will follow your selected journal’s guidelines American Journal of Nursing for creating a position paper, except that your word count (for the body section of your paper, which excludes the abstract, title page, and references sections) will be 1200-1800 words. You will write an abstract for your paper as if it were going to be published. (The abstract is not the type of abstract you would submit in a paper but one you would write if submitting a paper for publication.) If your selected journal has guidelines for the abstract, follow those guidelines.

You must support your work with at least eight scholarly peer reviewed articles. You must also link to the journal’s publishing guidelines, at the bottom of your paper. If there is no link, include a copy of the publishing guidelines in an Appendix to your paper.

You will write your position paper on your chosen policy change as if you were writing for your chosen journal. Your paper must include the following topics:

Abstract per instructions
Current situation necessitating the change
The proposed policy change
Agenda setting
A model or theory that can be used to bring about the change
Design strategies
Implementation strategies
Evaluation strategies
Conclusion

This Assignment presents a great opportunity for you to hone your writing skills and collaborate on working on an article for publication. You do not have to actually publish the article, but you may want to continue working with your group and your instructor to do so.
