By Saturday, October 1, 2016, submit your response to the appropriate Discussion Area. Use the same Discussion Area to comment on your classmates’ submissions by Monday, October 3, 2016, and continue the discussion until Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Choose one of the seven disorders you read about in this unit: Fragile X syndrome, ADHD, Turner syndrome, Down syndrome, Williams syndrome, autism, and FAS. Respond to the following questions using the disorder you chose.

Your friend Alice tells you that her daughter Lauren has been recently diagnosed with this disorder. Alice would like more details and comes to you for information.

Provide a brief description of the disorder.

Ask three friends or family members who are not in the field of medicine or psychology what they know about the cause and symptoms of the disorder. Analyze their replies and discuss what this might imply about how this disorder is known and perceived by the general public.

Alice expresses guilt that she may have caused Lauren’s disorder and is also concerned that it might occur again in future offspring. What would you advise her in terms of preventive actions, available testing, and reproduction options?

Imagine that you are working in a neurology clinic. One of the neurologists tells you that as his or her practice is expanding, he or she is having difficulty meeting the education needs of his or her patients. Part of this problem is explaining the basic neuroanatomical structures to the patients in layperson’s language so that they understand their diagnoses and their underlying neurological impairments. The neurologist asks you to create a written guide for the patients, including both the CNS and the PNS. He or she describes what the basic neuroanatomical structures are, where they are located, how they interact, and what function they serve.

He or she asks you to name the structures by using the correct technical language but to use layperson’s language as much as possible elsewhere.

Your neuroanatomy guide should cover the following:

Basic neuroanatomical structures (including the CNS and the PNS, as well as the structural packaging that protects the brain from the environment)
Locations of these structures
Functions they serve (what functions damage to these areas may affect)
How they interact
Be sure to explain the information in layperson’s language and use graphics and pictures where helpful. Use APA format when citing material from scholarly sources such as your textbook and online notes. Include a cover page and a reference page listing the resources you used to create your guide.

What is the significance of using the aggregated data from the three major organizations (i.e., American Heart Association, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and American Heart Association Annual Survey)?

Read the following article:

Ginn, G. O., Shen, J. J., & Moseley, C. B. (2011). Hospital financial position and
the adoption of electronic health records. Journal of Health Care
Management, 56(5), 337–350.

In the United States, adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) is one of the most prolific discussions at the healthcare level. Hospitals and organizations that seek to financially invest in and adopt EHRs can lower medical cost, reduce medical errors, and increase efficiency of healthcare services rendered by healthcare practitioners. In this study, the authors examine the role of the financial position of hospitals in the adoption of EHRs in order to obtain further information regarding barriers to adoption. Review the questions to ask when critiquing a research study. Answer the following questions:

What were the major reasons the researchers chose this method to study this case rather than another study design? What is the significance of using the aggregated data from the three major organizations (i.e., American Heart Association, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and American Heart Association Annual Survey)?
How might you use these findings to persuade your executive leaders to adopt EHRs and avoid substantial financial penalties?
What conclusions did the researchers reach with regard to the utility of EHRs?
As a proponent for the adoption of EHRs, what steps might you take to propose to executive leaders of your organization to adopt EHRs? What factors would you take into consideration as you draft your proposal?
After reviewing this article, how, as a leader, would you make a decision to budget for EHRs?
Complete a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis for your proposal.
Explore exhibits 1–3 and summarize this information for your executive leaders to include the findings in your research.

You will create a strategic plan that aligns the human resources (HR) function with the organization’s mission, vision, and
objectives. The overall scope of the Project is to create a “Shared Services” structure for HR that will be housed at the
organization’s corporate offices.
A solid foundation of research will support the theoretical base and practical applications of your strategic plan. Prepare an
annotated bibliography of the 10 or more sources you have selected. Submit the completed document to your instructor for
review.
Most of us are aware of the term “purpose statement” but are unsure of its real meaning within an organization. It is a
statement describing the organization’s purpose, or the reason for its existence. The purpose of an organization reflects a
desired position in the marketplace. It should accurately answer to the questions below. The purpose statement is the written
summary of those answers.
Who are we?
What do we do?
For whom do we do this?
How do we know when we are getting it done?
The purpose statement is the written summary of those answers. The most effective purpose statements are short, concise,
and direct. A good purpose statement is between 2–3 sentences.
Answer the four questions above and create a purpose statement for your HR department. Submit the answers to the four
questions and the purpose statement to your instructor for review.
NOTE: At this stage, you will need to name your company and decide the service they provide or products they manufacture.
Required Topics Be
sure to cover the following:
Strategic Contribution,
Personal Credibility,
HR Delivery Metrics,
Key Performance Measurements (KPM),
Action Plan for each functional area,
HR mission statement,
HR vision statement and objectives.
Your strategic plan should include:
Title Page
Table of Contents
Executive Summary
Body of your plan
Conclusion
Reference Page
Appendix (optional)
Submission requirements:
Ten pages minimum (not including the title page, table of contents, reference page or appendix) will be needed to complete
the project.
Support your analysis and recommendations with 5 credible sources documented in accordance with APA Requirements.

You are to write a 3,000 word (+/- 10% excluding reference list and tables/figures included in the text) essay. The topic for your essay is change management specifically you are being asked to design a strategy for the introduction of an innovation in practice that will improve service delivery within your field of nursing. This can be based on process mapping, response to a clinical incident (as part of a root cause analysis), in reponse to complaints or as a mechanism for introducing evidence base to clinical practice. You are expected to clearly outline what your project is, how it applies to health care and the current demands on the health service. You will need to draw on relevant theoretical frameworks to support your approach to change management and critically analyse the potential strengths and weaknesses of your approach. Consideration needs to be given to how your innovation will be resourced and evaluated with an application of clinical governance and leadership. In order to demonstrate that you have met the module learning outcomes there must be application of relevant theories and a critical evaluation of the frameworks, methodologies and tools used.
Module Learning Outcomes
Lo 1- Critically analyse and evaluate conceptual frameworks and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of their use and relevance in developing innovative approaches to practice, which deliver a quality service

What are longitudinal monozygotic twin studies? For what purpose are they utilized in research and clinical psychology?

What are longitudinal monozygotic twin studies? For what purpose are they utilized in research and clinical psychology?

Psychologists and psychiatrists can determine whether an individual is more susceptible to mental illness by conducting a family medical history. Familial pattern and prevalence data for psychological disorders can be found in the DSM 5.

For example if you look under panic disorder in the DSM 5:

“First-degree biological relatives of individuals with panic disorder are up to 8 times more likely to develop panic disorder. If the age at onset of the panic disorder is before 20, first-degree relatives have been found to be up to 20 times more likely to have panic disorder….Twin studies indicate a genetic contribution to the development of panic disorder.”

The DSM 5 has familial information for all the psychological disorders listed in the manual.
Explain

What are longitudinal monozygotic twin studies? For what purpose are they utilized in research and clinical psychology?

Why is research needed in clinical psychology? How do clinicians use research to develop effective treatment plans?

Each week I will provide a few questions to help start the discussions. You are not required to answer them for DQ participation points since DQ responses are no longer required for participation credit. These questions will simply serve as catalysts for discussion. Other discussion topics can be found at the end of each reading section above.

What significant events contributed to the evolving nature of clinical psychology in recent times? Whom do you identify as major contributors to the discipline? What are those contributions?

5. Psychological Assessment
We do our best as clinicians to eliminate bias. Some of the projective tests are older tests, i.e. the Rorschach, which are rarely used in clinical practice today, such as the Rorschach. Objective tests are more statistically accurate because there is no subjective evaluation involved. Objective tests can identify fake good and fake bad responses, are scored in the exact same way every time regardless of the clinician, and have been revised many times over the years to reduce margin for error. On the other hand, projective assessments such as House, Tree, Person, the Thematic Apperception, and Family Portrait tests can be very telling when used with children.Additionally, some testing is more closely associated with specific modalities. As you can imagine, the Rorschach and word association tests can be beneficial when conducting psychoanalysis. Explain

IDENTIFY, APPRAISE AND SYNTHESIZE SOURCES OF EVIDENCE FOR PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE.

Upon completion of this module, the student will critique a quantitative research report related to his or her previously identified and explored clinical or practice problem and meets the course objectives of Compare and contrast research designs used to answer clinical research questions. Identify, appraise and synthesize sources of evidence for practice implications in the context of evidence-based practice.

Reading assignment:
Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt Chapter 5 and Garrard: chapter 4-5

DELIVERABLE:
Using the Critical Appraisal Tool for Quantitative studies uploaded to you. complete a review of a primary quantitative research article you found while searching for your PICOT question ” Does implementation of a nursing education program on development of end-of-life care plan(intervention) among the (P) nursing assistants in a selected health care facility increase the number of patients with end of life care plans and their health outcomes (O) compared to a health facility where the program has not been implemented (C), 6 months (T) following implementation of the program?
Module 6
You’ll continue reading about research methods that use quantitative evidence, and building your matrix (or table). This week, you’ll use a Rapid Critical Appraisal form to help you answer important questions about the quality of a primary quantitative research article. These questions will help you learn to evaluate study strengths and weaknesses. Usually, quantitative methods will use structured instruments to collect data which will then be analyzed statistically. The articles you are using to practice the appraisal process should become a part of your evidence you are compiling to answer your practice question.
The statistics module will guide you through understanding power analysis and effect size. Power analysis is a method for estimating in advance how big the sample size should be in order to detect a true difference between groups in the study. The effect size is related to the strength of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable.
What you should be doing to prepare for upcoming poster assignment: Reviewing and evaluating literature to answer your PICOT question, and adding to your evidence table. Scan the websites listed in Box 16.3 (p. 364) of Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt for general tips about poster design. Here is a great site to find poster templates: http://www.makesigns.com/SciPosters_Templates.aspx. Make sure to review the poster rubric that will guide the evaluation of your poster.
