Laurie: Millions are addicted to prescription medications. Antidepressants, amphetamines, and opiate painkillers are seen as the solution to an incredibly wide variety of ailments, and patients rarely hesitate to take them. They may be legal, but these drugs are just as addictive and dangerous as their illicit counterparts. When doctors prescribe a medication that can be addicting they should follow up with the patient. America’s obesity problem indicates our obsession with instant gratification. Sugar, fast food, and convenience items are the staples in this country, and research has shown that they can be nearly as addictive as drugs and alcohol. And – similar to drug addicts – obese people are often viewed with scorn for their supposed lack of willpower. When a family is struck with addiction, the effects go far beyond numbers and statistics. The emotions of failure, depression, anger, disparity, confusion, and sheer terror that addiction inflicts on its victims and their families is not something any statistic can accurately describe. Every day, millions of people struggle with addiction and millions more watch with feelings of hopelessness, as addiction coldly and systematically destroys lives. With informative websites like Treatment Centers and others, they do all they can to educate the public on addiction. But most will tell you that until you go through it, or watch a loved one go through it, there is no way to fully encompass the true effects of addiction.

In both monetary and process terms, describe the costs and benefits associated with implementing EMR and associated health data systems. Lay out a plan for how various systems can be implemented.

Field: Business Finance – Management
Middleville Regional Health Care is one (1) of three (3) hospitals serving a community of 350,000 people. Summary statistics on Middleville and its competitors, from the AHA Guide, are shown below in Table 1. All three organizations are not-for-profit.

Table 1: Middleville, Brierfield, and Greystone Health Care Systems

Name Beds Admissions Census OP Visits Births Expenses (000) Personnel
Middleville 575 13,000 350 221,000 2,300 $125,000 2,000
Brierfield 380 17,000 260 175,000 1,200 $130,000 1,875
Greystone 350 10,000 180 40,000 900 $80,000 1,200

The governing board of Middleville hired a consulting company to evaluate its strategic performance, specifically in the areas of Human Resources, Information Technology, Financing, and Marketing. As part of the consultant’s evaluation, several leaders of Middleville’s units were asked their perspective of the organization’s performance.

You are working for the consultant. Your job is to identify the issues from the response that should be considered further by the consultant team and possibly discussed with the governing board and the CEO. The firm has a rule, “Never offer a criticism or negative finding without suggesting how the client organization can correct it,” so you must indicate what sort of correction you would recommend as part of your list. Because you know there were about two (2) dozen other interviews, you decide you should rank your issues in importance, to make sure the most critical are discussed.

Write a six to eight (6-8) page paper in which you:

Explain the governing board’s role in these strategic initiatives, determining its responsibility and involvement.
Evidence-based management means that operational and strategic decisions are made based upon the evidence that goals and objectives are actually being met. Quantitative measurements must be identified and measured. This data is then used to evaluate the HCO’s performance. Name three (3) performances Middleville can use to measure its success in providing quality healthcare to the community, and identify quantifiable, measureable indicators that can be used to do so. Explain the importance of each performance measurement.
Given the statistics of Middleville and its two (2) competitors provided in Table 1, recommend to the HCO what areas it should focus on to maintain its competitive market share as well as continue to provide healthcare to the community in the 21st century.
Some of Middleville’s Board members are very interested in pursuing advanced technology systems over the next five (5) years, while others are concerned about the enormous expense and need assurance that the investment in technology will be worthwhile. In both monetary and process terms, describe the costs and benefits associated with implementing EMR and associated health data systems. Lay out a plan for how various systems can be implemented.
Middleville has faced many challenges in recruiting and retaining nurses and other clinical employees. The economy has hit the area very hard and budgetary limitations have reduced the amount of money available for salary increases. The Board knows it needs to provide other benefits to their valued employees. Provide at least two (2) suggestions to Human Resources to promote employee satisfaction and, therefore, retain experienced personnel.
Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:

a. Typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

b. Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

c. Include a reference page. Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.

In addition, explain how the local clinic meets, supports, and advocates for evidence-based practice (EBP).
Phase 2: Describing the Aggregate due 01/18/16,

Submit a document describing your approved aggregate in detail.

In Phase 2 of the project, research and describe the demographics and statistics of your aggregate. Include information about the basic vital statistics of the aggregate such as the crude birth rate, infant mortality rate, life expectancy, the leading causes of death, and any other relevant statistical information related to the health of the aggregate. In addition, explain how the local clinic meets, supports, and advocates for evidence-based practice (EBP). As a part of this assignment, you will need to create a questionnaire and interview at least one healthcare provider who is familiar with your selected aggregate.

Tips

One of the most effective ways to obtain this information is to interview people who are familiar with and have worked with the selected aggregate, such as biostatisticians or other social and healthcare providers of the aggregate.
A well-planned questionnaire with carefully developed questions can help you elicit adequate and relevant information from the interviewees.
Your response should be in the form of a 2 page Microsoft Word document. Use relevant charts and graphs to support the information you collected. Identify the sources of your information and describe how you went about collecting the information.

Cite all sources in APA format.

What is likely to happen to the political campaign contributions made by Tier 1 networks and other major internet suppliers if the FCC is successful in getting the power to regulate Internet traffic agreements?

Each answer should consist of one or two paragraphs that contain analysis (not opinion).

1. What is likely to happen to the political campaign contributions made by Tier 1 networks and other major internet suppliers if the FCC is successful in getting the power to regulate Internet traffic agreements?

2. Why are all cartels inherently unstable?

3. Are coupons offered for groceries an example of price discrimination? Explain.

4. Government actions to require mandatory occupational licensing requirements impacts the prices charged for these services. What is the economic reasoning behind the assertion that occupational licensing requirements raise prices and what do consumers get for the higher prices? What is the economic reasoning regarding progress over time in an occupation that has licensing? (Note that you cannot charge more for your services just because your costs increase.)

5 In Britain, everyone has the right to health care provided by the National Health Service, paid for out of tax revenues. Nevertheless, two-thirds of British citizens earning more than $80,000 per year currently purchase private health insurance. Why would people opt to pay twice for healthcare services?

Compared to grand theories, middle-range theories are made up of limited number of concepts that lend themselves to empirical testing. All theories help to explain human health behavior.• Sister Callista Roy’s adaptive model theory is built on the conceptual foundation of adaptation. It identifies the positive role that nursing plays in the promotion and enhancement of client adaptation to environments that facilitate the healing process.(Grand Theory).• Madeleine Leininger’s culture care theory is pertinent in the current multicultural healthcare environment where nurses are exposed to diverse cultures.(Middle-range theory).

EXPLAIN WHY THE MARKETING PLAN OBJECTIVES SHOULD BE IN LINE WITH THE OBJECTIVES IN THE HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION’S STRATEGIC PLAN.

EXPLAIN WHY THE MARKETING PLAN OBJECTIVES SHOULD BE IN LINE WITH THE OBJECTIVES IN THE HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATION’S STRATEGIC PLAN.

Explain why the marketing plan objectives should be in line with the objectives in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan.

The healthcare delivery system is often described as a service-driven industry. Therefore, it is vitally important for healthcare organizations to define the services that they are providing; however, it is equally important to determine the demographics or customer base that requires the specific service.

The strategic planning process supports the healthcare organization by prioritizing objectives and detailing the actions needed to fulfil the goals of the business plan. Specific actions are unique and depend on the healthcare organization’s services, goals, and mission. Not all objectives outlined in the strategic plan require marketing plans (e.g., purchasing land, equipment, and buildings). Other objectives may require a marketing plan (e.g., providing physical therapy targeted toward a specific demographic).

To prepare for this discussion, read Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text. You may also want to review the recommended article by Yang (2010). Then read the scenario below and construct your initial post based on the directives that follow.

Scenario

The marketing director for Happy Valley long-term care center looks at the organization’s strategic plan to differentiate marketable objectives from non-marketable objectives. Objectives found in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan include the following:

Purchasing medical equipment
Purchasing more land
Acquiring financial capital
Acquiring physical resources
Providing elder day care to Alzheimer’s patients
Providing physical therapy
Providing social activities such as bingo
Promoting product awareness such as: marketing in a manor to improve the public’s perception of the HCO’s product or service
Providing shuttle service to medical appointments
Increasing sales
Creating a brand
Establishing the organization as a leader in the long-term care industry
Initial Post: Based on the Happy Valley scenario detailed above and the information presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text, construct an initial post in which you

Differentiate between the organization’s stated objectives as to whether they are marketable or non-marketable objectives.
Select the marketable objectives (i.e., those you would recommend developing in a marketing plan), and explain why you consider those objectives marketable.
