A monumental change is emerging in accounting: the movement away from the decades-old method of periodic financial statement reporting and its lengthy closing process, and toward issuing financial statements on a real-time, updated basis . . . real-time financial reporting provides financial information on a daily basis. Current technology allows for financial events to be identified, measured, recorded, and reported electronically, with no paper documentation. Would a shift toward real-time financial statements make the financial information more useful or less useful? More or less relevant? More or less reliable?

2. Consider the following bar chart of how accounting professionals’ activities have changed over time. Comment on how information technology affects the role of accountants. In what respect is this a positive trend or a negative trend? What will this bar chart look like in 2020?
In 2002, John Deere’s $4 billion commercial and consumer equipment division implemented supply chain management software and reduced its inventory by $500 million. As sales continued to grow, the company has been able to keep its inventory growth flat. How did the supply chain management software implementation allow John Deere to reduce inventory on hand? How did this allow the company to save money? Which income statement accounts (e.g., revenue, cost of goods sold, SG&A expenses, interest expense, etc.) would this affect?

Dell Computer used customer relationship management software called IdeaStorm to collect customer feedback. This customer feedback led the company to build select consumer notebooks and desktops pre-installed with the Linux platform. Dell also decided to continue offering Windows 8 as a pre-installed operating system option in response to customer requests. Where does this fit in the value chain? a.) Review the article by influencing legislation (Abood) (see below).

b.) Read the results of the articles (Aiken et al., AFL-CIO, Kinnard) on staffing ratios (see above). You have decided that you want your state legislature to pass similar legislation on mandated nurse-patient ratios.

c.) Using the above article(s), develop a plan for influencing votes of legislators on nurse- patient ratios. Limit your submission to two (2) pages. You MUST include the following:

Using the Abood article as a reference, describe the strategies and/or the “power(s)” YOU would use professionally and/or personally as a nurse to persuade a busy legislator. Use “I would/will…” terminology,” NOT “the nurse/nurses” or “you” terminology (referring to the reader).

How would you prepare YOURSELF, i.e., more education, organization memberships, etc.? Be specific.

How would YOU involve other nurses and potential patients (the public) in your strategies. i.e. petitions, meetings, etc.? Be specific.

2. PAGE 2: HEADING: [Level 1] Legislator Information Sheet ONE PAGE ONLY

Using the above articles (Aiken et al., Department of Professional Employees, AFL-CIO, Kinnaird) as references, compose a one (1) page legislator information sheet on nurse-patient ratios for a busy state legislator who will only have time to read bullet points:

Bullet points ( ● ) are brief, pertinent, accurate, research-and/or data based statements that emphasize the advantages to his/her constituents (patients). Summarize and paraphrase. Be convincing! Citations are required for each of the bullet points. NOTE: Bullet points can be easily inserted into a document using MS WORD.

INCLUDE AN INTRODUCTION: To provide context for the legislator, include a short (1-2 sentences) introductory statement at the top of page 2 to the legislator which explains the purpose for the bullet point statements below.

FOCUS ON PATIENTS/FAMILIES (the legislator’s voters): Compose nurse- patient ratio statements that focus on advantages to patients/families, not nurses. An example: Higher nurse-patient ratios increase nurse burnout. Nurse burnout results in higher attrition and less job satisfaction which impacts the continuity and quality of patient care (Aiken et al., 2010).

APA FORMAT CITATIONS NOTE: Many other research studies are cited in the articles. If you cite these other research studies, they are considered secondary sources (See APA Manual, p. 178, 6.17). For example, the following is an example of a bullet point with a citation from a secondary source:

Patients diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction had a lower mortality rate as the number of registered nurse hours per patient day increased (Sochalski et al. [as cited in Aiken et al., 2010]).
Aiken at al. is then used as the source on the reference list.

Purpose: To incorporate theory and other evidenced based practice evidence using a patient experience (case study). This assignment is designed to help you identify a patient issue or advanced nursing practice problem using a case study to communicate in writing the application of valid evidence (research and theory) to clinical practice to improve patient outcomes. You will be completing a literature review, critiquing research articles to develop an evidence table for your paper, evaluating available evidence that can be applied to your advanced nursing practice, gaps in research and implementing evidence into your anticipated role after graduation. Although you will be doing all of these activities to write your paper, you summarize in your paper your findings, not about all the details related to the activities you completed to write your paper.

Body of paper: Length is required to be between 10 and 12 pages double spaced (not including title, abstract, appendix and reference pages). Any additional pages added to the body of the paper, after page 12 will not be included in the grading process using the rubric below. Be Specific to the most common gender, age group, may include diagnosis, intervention, comparison (specific or class of medications) — depending on topic and PICOT, and time frame.

o (25 Points) Review of medical topic
¬ Case Study (Concise): List all the significant history, cc, etc.- not all the normal information unless significant for the case to rule out differential diagnoses (The case study should be one to two paragraphs in length). This is different than what you would document in a patient chart. This is a summary of a clear example of the population- who would be affected by this problem? Be Specific to the most common gender, age group, may include diagnosis, intervention, comparison (specific or class of medications) — depending on topic and PICOT, and time frame.
