There are many descriptions to the word nursing. Its wide usage has been through having many meanings to it. The values attached to the profession are very many and they ought to be cultivated for the thriving of the profession.discuss

Introduction
The term nursing has its usage borrowed from medieval periods. The term is very common in many countries in the world today. Its first time use is identified in the Biblical story of St. Paul Church. It is said that Paul would send men to preach and they would be accompanied by a nurse. It is most notable use in the recent times is in America and Canada (White & Truax 2007).
Meaning of nursing
In the mentioned Countries the term nursing means a person who helps people who are either sickly or injured to recover. The nursing could be exercised in hospitals or at war zones whereby the injured are attended to by nurses. The term is very popular in many countries nowadays. In some instances the term refers to the act of taking care without necessarily having an existence of a profession (White & Truax 2007).
In the most applicable definition nursing refers to a profession which is concerned with health care. It therefore means that nursing has its focus on the safeguarding the health of sick individuals in the family or elsewhere. The greatest distinction which can be drawn between nurses and other care providers is because their training on patient care is very distinct (Henderson & Vesperi 1995).
Nursing Values
Nursing just like any other profession has numerous values that ought to be considered. In assessing the different values it is worth noting that nursing has many values. A nurse is required to exercise compassion in dealing with patients. The feeling entails a great concern on the lives of the people he or she is handling. This personal value is because patients are not in the health care out of their free will. The reason for this requirement is that patients heal faster whenever they get the feeling someone is concerned (White & Truax 2007).
Secondly a nurse is supposed to be empathetic. This entails the ability to share the feelings that patients are experiencing. It follows that a nurse is supposed to keep a constant good communication with the patient to understand their feelings. The point of becoming judgmental is ruled out by a continued effort to listen to the patients. The rationale for being emphatic is that patients feel understood and that helps in improving their state of mind in regards to the sickness. A nurse by being empathetic respects the values and feelings of the patient (Mcsherry Mcsherry & Watson 2012).
Thirdly a nurse is supposed to be selfless. This means a sense of devotion which makes whereby other people become more important than the nurses does. This value makes a nurse view a patient to be of grave importance. It is through selfless acts that patients lives can be saved. Without selfless tendencies nurses will care about themselves instead of the patients (White & Truax 2007).
Fourth a nurse is supposed to portray a sense of self-aware. Some people call it emotional intelligence. A nurse ought to understand the way he or she thinks and acts since it will assist in making sure that situations are dealt with basing on that understanding. Situations whereby the nurse may get affected need to be understood so that they can be handled by a nurse who is not adversely affected. (Henderson & Vesperi 1995).
Conclusion
There are many descriptions to the word nursing. Its wide usage has been through having many meanings to it. The values attached to the profession are very many and they ought to be cultivated for the thriving of the profession.discuss

1. How did the Sanlu milk crisis arise? Who should be deemed responsible for the crisis?
2. Why do companies outsource? What are the pros and cons of outsourcing?
3. What is the role of ethics in supply-chain management?
4. What can be done to restore consumer confidence in Chinese dairy products?
5. Comment on Sanlu’s crisis management during the milk scandal.

SANLU’S MELAMINE-TAINTED MILK CRISIS IN CHINA
The milk crisis grieves us [the government] as much as it does the parents. We also feel guilty over this incident, which has exposed many problems along the milk supply chain […] Not only has the crisis revealed shortcomings in governmental supervision, it also reflects the lack of professional ethics and social responsibility among corporations […] The situation must be rectified immediately. Those irresponsible enterprises and implicated leaders must be penalised. Not a single one of them should get away with this!1
Wen Jiabao, prime minister of China
On 12 September 2008, the Chinese government ordered the nation’s biggest manufacturer of milk powder, Sanlu Group (“Sanlu”), to halt production because its powdered infant formula was found to contain melamine, a nitrogen-rich chemical, ingestion of which could cause kidney stones. The national inspection agency further discovered that milk products manufactured by 21 other diary companies tested positive for melamine. Sanlu was reported to have received its first complaint of illness as early as December 2007. However, news of the problem only surfaced nationwide after Sanlu’s New Zealand partner, Fonterra Cooperative Group (“Fonterra”), alerted the New Zealand government in September 2008.
Soon after the scandal broke, Sanlu apologised publicly for the incident and said that its milk suppliers had added melamine to the milk before selling it to them. However, the company failed to explain the delay in alerting the public to the contamination. The local government of Shijiazhuang, where Sanlu was headquartered, was also blamed for holding back the news from the central government.
By the end of September 2008, about 53,000 young children were found to have been sickened due to consumption of melamine-laced dairy products, and at least four babies had died from kidney failure. The melamine scare resulted in many countries recalling and banning goods using milk products from China. The milk crisis was soon regarded by the World Health Organisation (“WHO”) as one of the largest food-safety events in recent decades. While the Sanlu incident triggered widespread probes into the safety of food products made in China, it spotlighted the inadequacy of the entire dairy supply chain in China. The government and the industry had to take steps to restore confidence and ensure the quality of the Chinese dairy supply.
China’s Dairy Industry
Along with China’s growing per capita income and the people’s increasing desire for Western diets, demand for milk and dairy products in the country had been on the increase. Between 2000 and 2007, China’s dairy consumption had increased at an average rate of 23% each year.2 In 2007, over 35 million tons of milk was produced, which was a five-fold increase over a decade before [see Exhibit 1]. Euromonitor, a global industrial research firm, estimated the value of China’s dairy market at US$18 billion in 2007.3 Nevertheless, the per capita dairy consumption in China [see Exhibit 2] was still much lower than that of many other countries. By 2005, compared to the average per capita annual consumption of 268kg in Western countries, 64kg in Japan and 50.9kg in developing countries, Chinese only consumed 22kg of milk per capita annually.4 Over the years, the Chinese government had been promoting the health benefits of dairy consumption, with the hope that all Chinese, particularly children, would drink half a litre of milk every day.5

Instruction

This week we will look at research whose findings are reported in words not numbers. This is Qualitative research. Remember “l” is for letters and “n” is for numbers.
1. Explore the various qualitative methods used in nursing research
2. Discuss why one might choose qualitative methodologies to study nursing research questions
3. Learn how to critique qualitative nursing research studies
DB #7: QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS (50 POINTS)
1. Go to the ISU library databases.
2. Find a Qualitative article that is important to your current or future practice. Remember, qualitative articles use words–not numbers in their results and gives more meaning to what we do. THIS MUST BE QUALITATIVE=-=NOT QUANTITATIVE. HINT: May not be a bad idea to find one that gives meaning to your intervention for your EBP project–either on the culture, context of care or population. HINT#2: If you pick a Quantitative Article to critique, you will receive an AUTOMATIC ZERO. There is no excuse for not knowing the difference between qualitative and quantitative at this point. HINT #3: I will not provide any advice as to whether or not an article is qualitative or quantitative. Again, you should already know this.
3. Use tools to critically appraise the article. You can use your text critique guide or any CAT from a quality CAT website.
4. Write APA style paper, using the major headings of the critique from a CAT or your text as your paper subheadings. Provide for a discussion that is inclusive of all of the questions within each of the major sections.
5. Again, I’m looking for a discussion–not just “yes-no” responses.
6. Do not include the questions–just provide the answers to the question in discussion format so the paper flows.
7. No more than 3-4 pages long (the shorter the better)–not including title page and reference page. Getting your ideas in a logical order, not being too wordy and staying on point is key.
8. Submit in Word format to the discussion board.
9. Comment on others content and APA style.
10. Hang on to this paper, as you may want to use it for the critique assignment coming up.

What do you believe can be done to reduce the costs, thereby giving this organization a competitive edge?
Identify a health care organization for which a significant amount of information is available, in books, journals, reports, or on the Internet. Conduct an audit of the organization’s strategic assets based on the information you are able to gather from various sources. The audit you conduct will not be as thorough and detailed of an audit as the organization itself might conduct as you will not have access to the same inside information as internal auditors. Do your best to gather and report the following information.
Start with a general description of the service that the healthcare organization provides. Include the mission statement for the organization. If there is not one, create one you believe would best describe the mission of the organization.
