Benny and Dora Brown are a married couple with two young children. On April 10th, They come into your office and tell you the following facts:

Benny is an independent contractor but his wife Dora is an airline Pilot. They were on Dora’s health insurance for themselves and their two children. Unfortunately, Dora lost her job on January 1st.

On February 28th, they purchased Temporary Insurance, because their two year old daughter liked the talking lizard in the ad. This temporary insurance is good for two months, lasting until April 28th. It has high premiums, but they are generally a very healthy family, and really only bought the policy in the case of something catastrophic.

Fortunately, Dora found a new job at a small airline company. The job, and the health insurance from her new employer, will begin on May 1st. They understand that they will be without insurance for a few days, but decided it would be okay.

As luck would have it, Dora is starting to experience some symptoms that may be somewhat serious. Not knowing what a “diagnosis” might entail, the Browns are considering their options. They are trying to weigh their rights and options as to whether to wait until the new insurance starts (approximately 3 weeks) or to have her go to the doctor now (paying the office visit, tests, etc. out of pocket). Obviously they want to seek medical advice as soon as possible, but, they don’t want to ruin any chance of the insurance covering any treatment (such as surgery) that may be needed soon (if a particular diagnosis is rendered).

They have the following concerns.

Will HIPAA consider their Temporary Insurance to be credible coverage?
How can they prove credible coverage to their new employer?
Does it matter that they did not enroll in COBRA?

During our forum this week, we are discussing dreams. The meaning, origin, and analysis of dreams have fascinated psychologists since the inception of the field of psychology. Sigmund Freud, often referred to as the father of psychology, focused a great deal of his theoretical energy on trying to understand and interpret dreams.

Contemporary psychologists are beginning to recognize the interconnectivity of human physiology and psychology in a way not previously understood. This is in part because of new interest in holistic health and in part because of brain/body connections we are now able to see and understand for the first time due to enhanced technology. Yoga, mindfulness, healthy eating, meditation, holistic health – all of these practices are gaining more traction in mainstream society and among psychological circles as we recognize how the mind and body work together. In light of this growing area of interest in psychology, for this assignment you will maintain a sleep/dream journal during weeks 3 and 4, and complete an analysis and reflection on your experience in a summary paper in week 5.

Specifically, for this assignment you will:

Keep a sleep/dream journal for at least 10 days throughout Weeks 3 and 4. In your journal make note of:
any dreams you had, being as detailed as possible
any initial thoughts about the dream – events of the day that may relate, etc.
your general sleep schedule (if you have a tracker such as fitbit, include data on your sleep patterns as well – wakefulness, restlessness, times asleep/awake per night, total sleep, etc.)
your general eating habits by day
your general exercise habits by day
anything else of note in your psychological or physical health (stress, excitement, changes, etc.)

A decade later, the entire economies of the world changed, and shifted the way organizations develop, and how leadership within the organization implemented change management strategies. The complexities of organizational change in this decade have been rooted in organizational behavior and organizational decision making. To ensure success, these new methods will require planning and innovation from the leadership of the organization. This accommodating mindset of planning and innovation must embrace all creative differentiations within all aspects of the organization. Additionally, the allocation of resources within the organization can be a limiting factor in deciding how to introduce the practical side of theoretical knowledge to the organization in the most cost effective method. In the translation of theory to practice, organizations can employ a model developed in the 1980s by David Coopperrider named Appreciative Inquiry (AI) which identifies the strengths, potentials, and greatest opportunities for the advancement of the employees, management, and stakeholders of the organization (Cooperrider, Whitney & Stavros, 2008). Appreciative Inquiry, as an organizational model views the organization as a living human system and embraces the opinions of the workforce as creative energy sources that can assist in propelling the organization forward (Doggett & Lewis, 2013).
